Portals

In collaboration with organisations such as Johns Hopkins, SAfAIDS, K4Health, MSH, Baylor Malawi, Chemonics, Panagora, and URC, DITS has developed several USAID-funded portals. Notably, we created the renowned ‘HIV/AIDS SharePortal,’ which facilitates knowledge sharing and interaction among professionals in the HIV/AIDS field through specialised topical interest groups. Another significant project was the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) portal, enabling URC to manage VMMC targets, procedures, and implementers while collecting detailed medical data for reporting to USAID. Through the project more than one million men were circumcised in South Africa to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS.

With the decline of USAID funding for local implementing partners since 2018/2019, DITS has shifted its focus towards developing portals for the mining and housing development sectors.

We equip various mines in Africa with tools to engage with suppliers and job seekers, fostering interaction within this dynamic mining environment. This setting allows us to implement cutting-edge, high-performance technology effectively. Our latest initiative in this area is the Ivanplats job seekers portal where we recorded 20.000 job applications within the first six months of its launch.

For a client in the Netherlands, we developed an intranet and a completely new CRM system by integrating data from LinkedIn archives of employees with their Outlook address books and email data. We are currently collaborating with this client on an innovative platform for municipalities to manage housing development projects.

Knowledge management

DITS worked closely with organisations such as the Human Sciences Research Council, Management Sciences for Health, the South African Journal of Sciences, and the South African Monitoring and Evaluation Association. Through these partnerships, we have gained valuable insights into effective knowledge dissemination and the facilitation of knowledge exchange and sharing.

Continuous improvement

Over the past decade, in partnership with IMPEC, DITS has developed a platform for Continuous Improvement. This Laravel-based solution assists organizations in measuring performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and monitoring the impact of enhancement initiatives. The Department for Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation in the Presidency was our inaugural client for this platform.

Research data curation

Organisations conducting research have a responsibility to manage and curate the data collected. DITS has created systems that facilitate the dissemination of this data, enabling its use for secondary analysis. Throughout this process, we have gained insights into the data as well as the intentions and concerns of researchers regarding the appropriate use of their findings.
